The 2009 CFDA Awards: The Fashion Oscars

There was some big excitement pouring out from the steps of Lincoln Center last night where the dazzling Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards celebrated the outstanding achievements in the world of fashion. The Oscars of fashion was littered with top designers, models, and celebrities, all in either elegantly short or fashionably wacky ensembles.

The biggest honors of the night went to Womenswear Designer of the Year winners Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte (boy would I love to work for them), and Calvin Klein's Italo Zucchelli and Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders who tied for the Menswear Designer of the Year award. Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez won the Accessory Designer of the Year Award, and Alexander Wang, who wore his shortened version of a tux, was awarded the very coveted Emerging Talent Swarovski Award for Womenswear. Marc Jacobs happily took the International Award for his Louis Vuitton work (after narrowingly losing out on the Womenswear and Acessories Design Awards), and Anna Sui accepted the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Best of all, the very glamorous awards were hosted by one of my favorite British funny ladies (with a usually unglamorous mouth but looking nevertheless gorgeous) Tracey Ullman...
