MET Gala 2012 Red Carpet

Bianca Brandolini D'Adda
The red carpeted steps of the MET glistened once again with a bevy of golden stars who attended the annual Met Costume Institute Gala last night in New York City. Metallic was all the rage, and needless to say this red carpet is always better dressed than the Oscars. I mean where else can you find fashion's finest designers and muses going head to head with Hollywood??... Except for some head scratching misses (cue to Sarah Jessica Parker in her grandmother's nightdress) here's a look at some of the golden girls...

Karolina Kurkova

63rd Primetime Emmy Awards 2011 Red Carpet

Well dear readers, it turns out Sunday night's 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards celebrating the best of television was no different than any other long winded and mostly unfunny awards show with pompous movie star presenters (Gwyneth anyone?), embarrassing side act announcers, and badly acted acceptance speeches for best acting awards. Save for the awesome winning sweep of my favorite show "Modern Family," and a mostly enjoyable host - Glee's coach Sue Sylvester aka actress Jane Lynch who tried very hard for some laughs, the rest of the evening was boooring, and sadly so were almost all of the red carpet fashions except for a few pleasant standouts in the night's popular shade of RED including Sofia Vergara in sculpted Vera Wang, Kerry Washington in gorgeous glittery Zuhair Murad, Kate Winslet in Elie Saab, and knockout Connie Britton in sexy chiffon. So let's skip right over the tiny Best Dressed category (which you can find all the way down) and right into the Worst Dressed on the red carpet, as here are RedPoppy's picks for hideous, along with special mentions for the night's trendy orange oompa loompa look...

WORST DRESSED
Taraji P. Henson
Gaaaaaah!
Julianna Margulies
My mother calls this a spaghetti strainer..... She may be right...

This fierce oompa loompa.....is scaring the begeezus out of me
Amy Poehler
...wearing helium balloon couture in midnight blue

Heidi Klum
....is OUT in this outfit

Gwyneth Paltrow

The Duchess of Cambridge and Her Royal Red Carpet

...So after all the pomp of THAT breathtaking royal wedding I promised myself I wouldn't be writing anymore about the most talked about Royal couple of our generation, mostly because every media outlet, fashion site, newspaper, magazine, etc. has taken it upon themselves to bombard, er provide, us with continuous around the clock coverage of every single move the quintessentially perfect Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, aka Prince William and Kate Middleton to those of us who knew them when, have made since they became royally engaged. In fact William and Kate's most recent tour of Canada  demonstrated how the world is utterly obsessed with the royal couple's ease and poise, and of course most of all with Kate's wardrobe choices. Since her engagement Kate has upped her sometimes old fashioned mumsy elegance to a more youthful and fashionable sensibility. Particularly understated and utterly perfect was Kate's choice of a diaphanous Alexander McQueen gown for the Duke and Duchess' high profile BAFTA 'Brits To Watch' event in Los Angeles yesterday. It was the big celebrity event where chosen taut and awe-struck A-listers got the chance to mingle and share their wisdom with the famous Royal couple. Also in attendance were Nicole Kidman's fake lips, Jennifer Lopez's tacky display of flesh, and Blake Lively (who invited her?)...
Well done Kate, keep outshining those plastic Hollywood types. Goodbye awful clunky black satin heels, hello nude leather L.K. Bennetts!

Wowing at Cannes: A Look Back

As I head into a long, and what looks to be a humid (cue very large hair) Memorial Day Weekend here in New York City, I look back on almost two weeks of celebrity spotting, boat hopping, and film festival screenings that was had in the party city of Cannes. With a touch of melancholy I salute the movies and actors who were awarded for their excellence, and of course take a quick look back at more of the Wow worthy Red Carpet fashions that made the Cannes Film Festival what it was. Absolutely noteworthy by the way is actress Kirsten Dunst, whose film Melancholia not only wowed the festival critics, but whose red carpet A- report card (thanks to one eyesore of a dress) could teach young starlets a thing or two about taste and elegance....
So without further adieu let's take a look at the Wowing:
Comic duo Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson (yikes)

Gwen Stefani wowing...

Triple threat Kirsten Dunst wowing and divine in saffron yellow,
and gorgeous frothy layers and sequins...

Uma Thurman body wowing...

Original '90's supermodel (and slightly bony)
Claudia Schiffer

Angelina (looking like a French chocolate bar) with Brad...

Zoe Saldana wowing in candy cane couture

Paz Vega (Penelope Cruz's stunt double)

Another original '90's supermodel Naomi Campbell
with stuffy billionaire boyfriend

Milla Jovovich

Model Doutzen Kroes wowing...

Model Eva Herzigova wowing in the
best looking shorts anyone's ever seen

Alexander McQueen:Savage Beauty @ The MET Costume Institute Gala

As my navy rain boots and I plunged into the rainy depths of muddy colored puddles on Wednesday during a wet morning jaunt across the City, it occurred to me that I have yet to write about the latest royal pomp and circumstance that graced our very own shores on Monday night. Of course I am talking about the MET's annual Costume Institute Gala which celebrated the opening of “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty”. Among the lucky golden ticket holders honoring the work of the late designer were the odd co-chairing trio of Anna Wintour, Colin Firth, and Stella McCartney, along with dozens of fashion royalty and celebrities including Madonna, sporting fresh facial fillers and a starry Stella McCartney frock, couture goddess Daphne Guinness in head to toe feathered Alexander McQueen, and a truly stunning Jennifer Lopez in fuschia pink Gucci. Of course with all the excitement surrounding the recent royal nuptials in London, McQueen designer    Sarah Burton could hardly hide from the blaring spotlight which now rests reverently and deservingly upon her golden head...So let's look at some of the fabulous gowns that dazzled and of course some of those which fizzled all the way up the red carpeted steps of the MET, and of course my witty photo comments....
Jennifer Lopez in Gucci. Absolutely divine and muy caliente!!

I can't tell where this Olsen ends and the red carpet begins...
