Rainbow Sparklers
You already know how much RedPoppy loves a chunky and shimmery cocktail ring. Imagine, then, just how much more amazing such a ring is when it sparkles endlessly with a rainbow of precious stones and crystals. Lately I've come across the ornate and majestic jewelry line M.C.L. by Matthew Campbell Laurenza, whose pave-encrusted starburst rings (pictured below) and intricately-designed enamel bracelets are sold in stores including Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcuses all over the country.

Dark Denim
I have always loved a super chic straight jean skirt, and I'm always on the lookout for a new one. Which brings me to one very important denim detail: The Darker The Better. Dark-wash denim and jeans is a soaring trend for good reason, as it takes an otherwise casual look to a whole new sophisticated level.
The ultimate example in handsome denim dressing (sorry but U.S. guys, except in J.Crew catalogues, never get it this right): The European tourist (especially if he's from Spain) wandering around Manhattan, or London, in a perfect pair of crisp dark jeans, paired of course with a navy crew-neck wool sweater worn over a plaid cotton buttoned-down shirt, and finished off with a gorgeous pair of brown/caramel suede shoes. Take note people, because believe me this look works every single time!

Summer Scented
Red Poppy has always had a very choosy sense of perfume smell (especially when she only wears CHANEL No.5), but when it comes to a really pretty bottle, then sometimes it bears a second sniff. Sephora has two fragrance arrivals just in time for some fresh new summer scents: Flora by Gucci and Miss Dior Cherie by Dior. Both are floral and light, and come in two very solid and feminine glass bottles which will look tres chic on any vanity set. Available at a Sephora near you.

More Cannes Red Carpet
According to many the festival at Cannes didn't really begin until yesterday, when Penelope Cruz set aside a bout with food poisoning to make an appearance at the various photo ops for her new Pedro Almodovar movie 'Broken Embraces.' Poor thing, it took a lot of good acting to muster up a smile in the face of distracting stomach cramps. According to even more people, the festival didn't actually begin until a dapper looking Brad and nearly naked Angelina swept into Cannes to promote Brad's new Quentin Tarantino film 'Inglorious Basterds.' Angelina wore a nude colored slit to there and backless Versace gown, but at least she looked less skeletal than usual, and a bit more robust thanks to a bright red pout. More peanut gallery below....

Gorgeous black/white looks at the Amfar evening gala (although Claudia Schiffer needed some major help in the makeup department).
I'm not a big fan of cornflower blue for eveningwear. Besides, designer Donatella Versace looks like the bride of Chucky, Liz Hurley's prom dress bored me so much I almost fell asleep, and redhead model Lily Cole's gown looked more like an ill-fitting bathing suit with a chiffon cover-up attached.
At the after-party, Brad and Angie looked a tad worse for wear, aka slightly drunk and delirious, as they mingled with Hors d'oeuvres and party revelers. I wonder who's babysitting?

Chanel Resorts to Venice
CHANEL's Resort/Cruise 2009 show took place last week on Venice's Lido beach with breathtaking views of the sunset and sand, a perfect setting and ode to Mademoiselle Coco Chanel's favorite summer getaway. The collection felt very 1930's, with nostalgic black and white sailor stripes worn with classic Chanel cap-toe flats, as well as drop-dead elegant suits only Chanel can conjure, and flowy chiffon printed dresses, all spectacularly understated. Mr. Karl Lagerfeld continues to knock my cheap socks off with his never-ending genius. This collection was, in one word, wow.

A Summer Must
Being a freckly readhead, I'm a super advocate for wearing sunscreen on my face year round, especially during the sunny months. I've tried loads of sunscreen formulas including popular and never-heard-of brands which boast anti-pimples and sweat-proof everything, except that I'm already sweating through my first application before I've even stepped outside. So after many years of complaining, I've finally found one that I love and works for me: Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock with SPF of your choice (although higher is always better!). It dries almost instantly after you apply it so you're not left with a greasy face, and it's 100% hypoallergenic so no breakouts. Throw in a lovely scent, and voila! you have a perfect sunscreen. No excuses now!

Cannes-Please Don't-Red Carpet
And on the other side of classy is Mariah Carey, doing her best clingy and overexposed impressions in her second-skin halter gowns.

Juliette Binoche is a lovely actress, but her stylist and hairdresser need the sack. Her gown colors are unflattering and her hair looks like it was washed under an extra low-pressure shower head.

Hillary Swank usually looks styled to perfection, but here I think she looks more like the Tin Man starring in Transformers III.

Evangeline Lilly made it into my Cannes-Do right below this post, but the cut of this Mediterranean-blue Valentino gown makes the lovely star look, well, Lost at sea.
