The 82nd Annual Academy Awards started off sunday night on a slightly awkward note when the Best Actor/Actress nominees had to stand self-importantly on the stage as the curtain rose and the audience applauded their talents...Enough with the cringing celebrity-praising-celebrity moments that went on all night. Awkward! Remember that awful Oscar year when Glenn Close and Donald Sutherland gave us a play by play of the night's events while sequestered in an off-site booth? Double awkward! Thankfully the pairing of witty and hilarious hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin saved the Oscars this year from putting me to sleep early, and at points I actually laughed out loud. This year the red carpet dazzled with a sea of pretty gowns, which meant less visions of ugly, but lots more of boring. Lovely standouts include a sparkling Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta, and Carey Mulligan looking chic in Prada. So here are my picks for Best, Boring, and Worst dressed of the night:
BEST:
Cameron Diaz looked resplendent in Oscar de la Renta, but my girl Cam was not her usual slightly more avant-garde self. (Did anyone else notice her face looking slightly weird on camera?
Carey Mulligan in Prada (she should so ditch the blonde 'do)
Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab Couture
Jennifer Lopez in Armani Prive
Elizabeth Banks in Atelier Versace
Kate Winslet in YSL. Elegant. Thoughts?
Vera Farmiga in Marchesa
Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries van Noten
BORING:
Best Actress Winner Sandra Bullock in Marchesa. She looks gold and sparkly, but it's boring, straight, and reminds me of old school Badgley Mischka.
Sigourney Weaver in Lanvin.
Elegant, but for some reason I'm still really bored.
Anna Kendrick blends in too well with her own gown and her hair looks messy. Booooring...
Julianne Moore (in Calvin Klein) is a redhead goddess, however her Bulgari retoucher was nowhere in sight last night as her dress was unflattering, too pale, and she looked sinfully boring...
WORST:
It looks like George Clooney's shower head is suffering from low pressure...
Mo'Nique may have won for Best Supporting Actress, but her dress did not. Thoughts?
Tina Fey in Michael Kors. I just can't look at that hair...
In real life she is effortlessly gorgeous. However Penelope Cruz looks like a distant David's Bridal memory here. It's bad and it's painful to look at....
Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture. I was really torn here, because I love the sparkly bustier part, and the ruffled bit. But I don't like them together. Nor do I like the purple ombre tones...
Charlize Theron in Christian Dior. Caught in the headlights. Literally.
Mariah Carey. She even manages to make Valentino look cheap.

I agree with you largely, though I really liked Anna Kendrick's dress, thought Zoe Saldana's was mad enough to work. I think Amanda Seiyfried wore the Armani better than J-Lo. Mariah was definitely the worst, just looked slutty. ANd Clooney looked horrendous, too much tan and the long hair made him look like some dodgy old man.
Loved hearing your comments!
Zoe Saldana looked great, sparkles and all.
